Autodesk Docs – Manage change

Autodesk Docs is a great tool to able to track changes on your designs whether you are using 2D or 3D design workflows.

Autodesk Docs is hot of the press and available inside your AEC Collection subscription licenses. It’s a powerful tool allowing you to share information, create mark-ups, issue track and much more. If this is news to you then get in touch for a demo or discussion.  

One of Autodesk Docs features I want to highlight is the compare feature. It is an extremely useful tool that will allow you to easily find changes between any versions of a 2D or 3D design. This could be useful to:

  • Track project progress
  • Change track
  • Notice changes in linked models before you use it as a link
  • Find mistakes/accidental changes in drawings or models
  • Title Block checking

How does it work?

If you are comparing a Revit model it will give you detailed information on what has been added, removed and what has been modified. You can then filter by Discipline, Category or simply search for a specific family type. It will not only check changes to geometry but also information, very handy if you are keeping an eye on quantities or other data.

Once you find the change/s you’re after you can export the results to excel for record purposes if required. Autodesk Docs saves all versions of a model so you can always go back to an older version or compare any version against another if required.

What if you are 2D?

That is great you say but I use DWGs and PDFs. Autodesk Docs has got you covered. You can use Autodesk Docs to overlay versions of DWGs and PDFs to view changes. Making it very easy to find changes on large drawings.

In fact, this feature not only allows you to compare the same drawing but you can overlay any drawing over another. This could be hugely beneficial for anyone who needs to:

  • Coordinate 2D drawings
  • Take line loads for structural engineers
  • Ensure plans are drawn the same size
  • Overlay different disciplines plans

Conclusion

Autodesk Docs has some great tools within in it and now that it is available as part of AEC collection, it is something that you may be able to start using today.
