AutoCAD built in AI identified repeated geometry and lets you convert them into block definitions which is a real time-saver!

Improved detection capability BDETECT, previously known as DETECT, uses machine learning to identify and group similar objects in a drawing for easy block conversion. Detect and Convert is a Tech preview, which means that the detection capability and functionality have improved since the last release and will continue to improve.

A simple example to demonstrate this functionality:

• Using normal draw command, draw up something like the below or explore this function by using your own example.

• From the Home tab – Panel > Block Icon > Detect and Convert interface (also found under the Insert tab).

• This pop-up meu will appear. The system is looking through your drawing for similar objects.

• The result:

• Click the 3 dots next to the wording Set 1, as shown in the above image. Select the convert to block options, as in the below image (this will collect the highlighted objects).

• This will prompt the dialog box to convert instances to existing block or new block. Click on new block and type the name for the block, relevant to the grouped objects. Then click the + to select the insertion point for when you next place this block into the drawing.

• The result: all similar grouped objects are now converted from lines and arcs to a block, displayed by a single grip from the insertion point you selected.

• You will see this when you open the properties dialog box (type PR – shortcut).

• You can further add this block to your drawing. Click on Insert tab on the ribbon, or type I for the shortcut. You will see your newly made block to re-use.

• Repeat the above with another set of grouped objects.
