- Open a drawing in AutoCAD.
- At the top right of the screen, select the dropdown arrow next to the AutoCAD symbol.
- Hover over Save As and select Drawing.
- At the bottom of the Save As dialog box, select the dropdown arrow by Files of Type.
- Select the type and version you require and click save.
The latest version you can save to is AutoCAD 2026. The native drawing file format for AutoCAD 2029 through 2026 is the same: AutoCAD 2018 Drawing (*dwg). This means that a file saved from AutoCAD 2026 is a 2018-format file, ensuring compatibility with older versions like 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
