Importing CAD-CAM Data into Fusion Operations

One big question we get from customers implementing Fusion Operations, relates to the import of pre-existing CAD and CAM data from Inventor or Fusion. While Fusion Operations does not currently offer direct input from either of the two CAD packages out of the box, we have developed a workflow to get these products connected. This is especially helpful for companies who deal with one-offs or small batch production, where there isn’t the time to set up products within Fusion Operations.

Importing Products and Consumptions

Fusion Operations supports the bulk import of products, along with the import of product consumptions (BOM), and operation timings. This means we are able to tap into information already located within your CAD system.

Product Operations

We have developed a tool which will take the machining times of any machining setup within a machining file, and translate this information into something readable by Fusion Operations. This will enable the creation of not only the Operations against Products, but also the creation of new Products,. This leads to quicker turnaround times for creating Products and Operations within Fusion Operations, all whilst using your existing CAM data.

This workflow is available for both Fusion CAM and Inventor CAM.

Importing Operations

Once the data has been converted into the relevant CSV or XLS file, this can be imported straight into Fusion Operations.

Consumptions

In addition to the machining or CAM imports, we are able to import a Bill of Materials into Fusion Operations from assembly files in both Fusion and Inventor. This allows us to import the relevant component information into Fusion Operations as consumptions.

Fusion

In Fusion, we can further customise this by assigning the Description, or any other property of the assembly, as a prefix to enforce unique operation names.

Inventor

In Inventor we are able to make use of similar functionality. Due to the availability of more and custom properties, we can drive the Prefix of any assembly operation by any iProperty within the assembly file.

Importing Consumptions

Once the consumptions have been exported from Fusion or Inventor, they can simply be dragged or dropped into Fusion Operations to assign the Assembly, Operation and Consumptions to existing Products.

Once these are imported into Fusion Operations, they will work as any other product or assembly. Allowing for creation of Production Orders against them, and the tacking of your productions on the shopfloor, with the added convenience of a flexible workflow for non-standard products.
