Error Opening PDF with Custom Fonts in AutoCAD

Do you encounter errors opening a PDF after plotting from AutoCAD, whilst using custom fonts? In this blog, we’ll cover why this occurs and how to resolve it going forward.

Dialogs like ‘There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired’, usually indicates PostScript with OpenType outlines are installed and unsupported within AutoCAD – TrueType should be used here instead.

Navigate to the Font folder within Windows (C:\Windows\Fonts). Open the font you’re using, checking whether this is PostScript or TrueType. Sometimes you’ll find both are installed as per the below image. Remove all fonts with PostScript, install TrueType where needed, and try plotting to PDF again. You should no longer experience issues with new created PDFs.
