Autodesk Vault 2027 brings a range of practical improvements designed to streamline everyday workflows, and one of the most useful updates for design teams is the enhancement to Copy Design.
For many Inventor users, Vault Copy Design is a core part of the design process. Whether creating product variants, adapting an existing assembly, or reusing previous work as the basis for a new project, Copy Design helps us re-use data quickly, whilst maintaining relationships and dependencies.
In Autodesk Vault 2027, Autodesk has made this workflow even smarter. With the latest update, users can now edit specific properties during the Copy Design process itself, reducing manual rework and helping ensure copied designed are accurate from the outset.
What’s New in Copy Design?
Previously, many users would run Copy Design first and then manually update properties afterwards. This often meant opening files individually or having to locate and select specific files to carry out a bulk property edit to amend information like part numbers, descriptions, project codes, or customer-specific references.
In Autodesk Vault 2027, we can edit multiple properties at once before completing the copy, making it easier to prepare and review the files before they are created. Autodesk has also introduced the ability to copy and paste values directly from Excel, allowing users to update multiple rows of metadata quickly.
Reducing Errors Before They Happen
One of the biggest advantages of this update is accuracy.
When properties are updated after files have been copied, there is always a risk that something may be overlooked. An incorrect part number for example, can lead to costly issues further downstream in manufacturing and purchasing.
By allowing these changes to happen earlier in the workflows, Vault 2027 helps reduce the chance of human error. This is particularly valuable for businesses managing high volumes of repetitive design work, or teams producing similar assemblies with small variations.
The cleaner and more accurate the data is from the start, the fewer issues arise later and the more effective AI-drive tools, such as Autodesk Assistant, will become.
A Better Workflow for Configurable Products
At Man and Machine, we regularly work with manufacturers who create configurable or made-to-order products.
For these businesses, design reuse is essential. Combined with tools such as Autodesk Inventor iLogic, Fusion’s Python or custom automation, we can help reduce engineering time, improve consistency, and speed up order turnaround.
Small Change, Big Impact
Smarter Copy Design may not be the headline-grabbing feature in Autodesk Vault 2027, but it improves a workflow that many engineering teams already rely on everyday. If your business relies on Autodesk Vault and Inventor for product development, these practical workflow improvements can add up quickly.
